P6

six analog voices for the FM-1, in the browser: the same code the FM-1 runs

The FM-1

Turn your phone sideways for bigger controls.

Tab moves through the knobs, the buttons and the keys. Arrow keys turn a knob, Page Up and Page Down faster. Space or Enter holds a button or key down while you hold it; Shift and Enter keeps a button down until you press it again.

Off. Sound starts when you switch it on. Forget your programs, and start again from the factory programs

Speak the screen

Who reads the screen

P6 tells a screen reader what its screen shows, the way the FM-1 tells the FM-1 Screen Reader: pages, knobs as they turn, programs. Your screen reader reads it while this page is in front; this page's voice (eSpeak NG, running in the page) reads it without one.

Playing

  • The 27 keys play, F to G. OCT− / OCT+ move them up to two octaves.
  • PRESETS picks the program, A-1 to D-8: it loads at once, as on the Polysix.
  • ALGORITHM is the filter's CUTOFF, on every page.
  • PLAY HOLD. ARP the arpeggiator (with HOLD it latches). SEL UNISON: all six voices on one note.
  • REC CHORD MEMORY: hold a chord and press it, then every key plays that chord. With no keys held it turns CHORD mode on and off.

Pages

  • SELECT or EDIT step through the pages; KNOB 1–4 are the four values on the screen.
  • HOME the voice: VCO, Mixer, VCF, VCA in turn. ENV the EG, LFO the MG, FX chorus, phase, ensemble and reverb, SEQ the arpeggiator's mode, range and tempo, GLO setup.
  • SAVE WRITE: turn PRESETS to the place, SAVE again to write the panel there. Any other button cancels.

Mouse, touch and keyboard

  • Drag a knob up or down, or use the scroll wheel over it. Several fingers at once work on a touch screen.
  • Shift-click (or right-click) a button to hold it down, click again to let go.
  • Shortcuts, while the panel has focus: white keys Q–I and A–K, black keys 1–0 and -. P HOLD, L ARP, O CHORD MEMORY, N UNISON, Esc HOME, Z / X OCT− / OCT+, ↑ ↓ turn PRESETS.

Saving

Programs you write, and the panel as you left it, are kept in this browser, as the FM-1 keeps them in its memory. Factory reset forgets them. It is the firmware, not a recording: what you hear is P6 running, at the FM-1's 44.1 kHz. The idea of running FM-1 firmware in the browser comes from Groove OS's emulator.
